Room II

The hall frescoed on the ground floor of Leo-Lev Exhibition Center is ready to set of the exhibition AURELIO AMENDOLA & ORESTE RUGGIERO | Towns & Knots of Leonardo, curated by Veronica Ferretti and Oreste Ruggiero.

Aurelio Amendola is among the most elegant and prolific photographers of our times, internationally known for his shots of the works of Giovanni Pisano, Michelangelo, Donatello and his portraits of the Twentieth Century’s Masters including Giorgio De Chirico, Alberto Burri, Marino Marini, Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein; Aurelio Amendola exhibits for the first time in Vinci with a four-handed tribute to the great Renaissance Master: Leonardo da Vinci.

In the art show presented by Leo-Lev Exhibition Center, in inner square Piazza Pedretti, Aurelio Amendola’s photographic work meets the Oreste Ruggiero’s art, creating an unique opportunity: the  cooperation between two contemporary artist who converse about Leonardo da Vinci.

A meeting, that between Amendola and Ruggiero, already took place in the international artists MIRABILI group’s and in the collaboration for the exhibition Jorio Vivarelli and Twientieth Century’s Architects in the Pistoia’s Palazzo Comunale.

Towns & Knots of Leonardo – an art show enriched by a precious interview to Amendola and Ruggiero commented by the Art Historian and Journalist, Veronica Ferretti – offers six photographs signed by Aurelio Amendola, representing important town of Leonardo’s life: Vinci, Pistoia, Florence, Pisa, Milan, Amboise.

The original shots by the Pistoia photographer are accompanied by Ruggiero’s work who he has elaborated in artistic way the Leonardo’s knots, symbol of the Da Vinci Academy in Milan. The two artists present a fusion between the photographs of Leonardo’s six cities with Academy’s knots, as if those places were filtered by the complex development of graphic virtuosity invented by Master from Vinci, cloaked in mysterious symbolism, which at the time assumed an aesthetic and symbolic of great importance.

It’s exceptional event in which Amendola combines his photograph art with the Ruggiero’s art who uses in his work transparent or reflective materials (such as plexiglas, crystal and steel), transmitting high espressive contents to the viewer.

Towns & Knots of Leonardointends to be a sort of tale of Leonardo’s places, read by the masterful interpretation of Aurelio Amendola and seen through the complex intertwining, but the same time ordered and endless, like a cosmic truth at which Leonardo constantly targeted.

Towns & Knots of Leonardo of AURELIO AMENDOLA and ORESTE RUGGIERO invites the visitors to also go to Aurelio Amendola’s anthological exhibition at the Fondazione Pistoia Musei for the show Aurelio Amendola | An anthology. Michelangelo, Burri, Warhol in its two venues of Palazzo Buontalenti and the Antico Palazzo dei Vescovi (opening from 8th February 2021).

The Pistoia exhibition – curated by Paola Goretti and Marco Meneguzzo – presents over two hundred shots and it’s intended as a tribute to the career of photographer of great intensity. We are dealing with the first exhibition to collect together almost the whole of Amendola’s output, giving the public the possibility of admiring his figurative coherence, as well as his links to the classica tradition of art history and the photography of the great contemporary masters.
